New Year's Eve with Kids

We are staying in this year because you know this pandemic is never ending, so I decided to use the internet to come up with some fun ideas to do with our kids (ages 4.5 and 7)!

Beginning at 4 pm there will be a bag to open at each hour. Some of the bags will have games, some will have things to do, some will have little toys to celebrate.

Here is my plan:

4 pm - New Year's Around the World

Print a blank map of the world time zones. Color in the places that have already celebrated New Year's and then each hour you can see what part of the world is celebrating at that time until you get to your time zone.

5 pm - Happy New Year Coloring Pages

There are a ton of coloring pages on the internet. Here are a few of my favorites:

6 pm - Dinner Time

Decide as a family or plan something ahead of time that you know your kids will love.

Have some fun with this word search activity. Need a harder version? Here are some I found:

8 pm - Snacks!

We opted for popcorn and movie theater candy, but the possibilities are endless! Here are some cute ideas:

9 pm - New Year's Eve I Spy

Here is a themed I Spy puzzle that can be printed out (or click here for an electronic version)

10 pm - Milk shots!

There are different ideas that you can do here. If you kids like the sparkling cider you can use that, but right now my kids are not a fan, so I saw a fun idea online where you take a champagne or shot glass (Dollar Tree has plastic ones!) put icing around the rim, then dip it in sprinkles. Pour in some milk then cheers to the new year! We chose to do this at 10 pm just in case the kids don't make it to midnight.

Allow the kids to reflect on the previous year with this activity.

11:45 pm - New Year's Celebration Supplies

I hit up the local Dollar Tree to find some hats, noise makers, and glow sticks. I will let the kids open them a little early so that we can use them to celebrate at midnight. Plus, if the kids don't make it to midnight, they can have fun with it the next day!

Happy New Year! May 2022 be whatever you hope it will be!
